FYBCom Sem 2 AEC Adaptability Skills Q & A

v Adaptability Skills:   (Story - Senor Payroll)

v Thinking about soft skills:

1.    What is adaptability? How is adaptability a survival skill in an organization?

Adaptability means being able to change and adjust to new situation, changes, or challenges. In an organization, it helps people to work well with new ideas, tools, or situations. Basically, adaptability means to be able to adjust according to the situation and according to the demand of the time. Adaptability is important because things are always changing. People who are flexible can handle challenges better.

2.    Who needs this skill most in an organization?

Everyone in an organization needs adaptability, but leaders and managers need it the most. They have to make important decisions and guide the team through changes. Employees also need it to adjust to new tasks or ways of working. People who are flexible can handle challenges better.

3.    How is knowledge of human relations an important dimension of adaptability?

Knowing how to work well with others is important for adaptability. When people understand each other’s feelings and needs, they can adjust with them. This helps in solving problems and working as a team. Good human relations reduce misunderstandings during changes. Understanding people is key to adapting to different situations.

4.    How do you maintain your self-respect and yet adjust with others?

You should stay true to yourself but also respect others. Listen to people and be open to their ideas. It's important to be kind and respectful, even when you disagree. Adjust without changing who you are. Find a balance between your needs and needs of others.

v Proverbs On Adaptability Skills:

1.    Change yourself and you change the earth.

This proverb emphasizes the power of personal transformation. If you change yourself, you can help change the world. When you improve your thoughts and actions, others may do the same. Big changes start with small efforts. A better world begins with small steps of change in ourselves.

By changing your attitude, behavior, or mindset, you can inspire those around you and by the way the world changes.

2.    Times change and we with time.

Everything changes with time. People, ideas, and ways of living also change. If we do not change, we may be left behind. It is good to adjust and move forward with time.

3.    A reed before the wind lives on, while mighty oaks do fall.

This proverb teaches the importance of flexibility. A soft reed bends with the wind and survives, while the strong oak tree that resists the wind may break and fall. Similarly, people who are adaptable and willing to adjust to circumstances are more likely to endure challenges, while those who are stubborn and rigid may face failure or defeat. It is wise to adjust when needed.

4.    Adversity makes strange bedfellows.

Hard times bring people together, even those who are very different. When facing trouble, people forget their differences and help each other. This shows that challenges can create unexpected friendships.

5.    The unexpected happens.

Life does not always go as planned. Surprises can come anytime. We should be ready for anything and stay strong. Accepting change helps us deal with life better.

6.    New Lords, new rules.

When new leaders come, they make new rules. People must accept these changes. It is better to adjust than to resist. Change is a part of life.

7.    The wise adapt themselves to circumstances as water moulds itself to the pitcher.

Wise people change according to the situation. They are flexible and adjust themselves to fit different situations, just like water takes the shape of its container. People should adjust to different places and times. This helps them succeed in life.

8.    Circumstances alter cases.

A decision that is right in one case may not be right in another. Situations change, and we must think accordingly before we act. It is important to be flexible and understand the situation.

9.    The dogs may bark, but the caravan moves on.

People may talk badly about you, but you should not stop. Keep moving forward and do not let others' words stop you. Success comes to those who do not give up and do not pay attention other’s criticism.

10. To exist is to change; to mature is to create oneself endlessly.

Life is a continuous process of growth and transformation Life is always changing. To grow, we must keep learning and improving. Every day is a chance to become a better person. Change helps us become stronger and wiser.

v Soft Skills at Work Place:

1.    Why do some employees change jobs frequently, while others work loyally for their companies for many years?

Employees change jobs frequently for reasons like better pay, career growth or due to dissatisfaction with their current role, or workplace culture.

Others stay in the same company because they feel happy, valued, and because they trust their employer. Stability and a good work environment make them stay longer.

2.    What are some important areas you will look into before you decide whether a company is suitable for you or not?

Before choosing a company, I will check the work culture, salary, job role, and growth opportunities. I will also see if the company has a good reputation and if it supports a work-life balance. It is important to work in a place that matches my values. I would like to work with the company which has a supportive and positive environment.

3.    What are the essential features of good communication in an organization?

Good communication includes clarity, transparency, active listening and timely responses. It also means being honest and having mutual respect. Good communication helps people work better, avoids confusion, and builds teamwork. It ensures that information flows effectively between employees and management. Good communication minimizes misunderstandings, and builds teamwork and trust.

v Real Life Experience:

In groups of four or five discuss the advantages and disadvantages of changing jobs frequently. Support your views with examples of people you know who changed jobs very often. The group leaders may then report their views to the class.

In our group discussion about changing jobs frequently, we found both advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, changing jobs gives more experience, new skills, and better salary. One of our friends changed jobs every two years and learned both marketing and sales. He also got a higher salary.

However, there are drawbacks too. Job-hoppers may struggle with job stability and face concerns from employers about their commitment. They may also find it hard to build long-term relationships or get promotions, as companies’ value loyalty. Overall, while changing jobs can bring growth, it’s important to consider both the benefits and potential downsides before making the decision.

In the end, we agreed that job changes can help in growth, but we should also think about job stability.
