Vocabulary Development:

Meaning in Context:

# Look up a dictionary and find the meaning of the words and phrases below, as they are used in the context of the story.

1.  Dragging: Pulling something with effort or difficulty/ Tedious/ Tiresome

2.  Hollow: Having a space or cavity inside / Empty

3. Solemnly: Seriously/ In a formal, dignified manner; seriously, without any humor or playfulness

4. Clutched: Grasped or seized tightly; held onto something closely / Grabbed tightly

5. Turn in: To submit or hand over something

6. Interruption: An act of breaking the continuity of an ongoing event, process, or action

7. Mysterious: Difficult or impossible to understand, explain, or identify

8. Rival: A person or thing competing with another for the same objective or

     superiority in the same field of activity / Enemy

9. Conjuring: The act of calling upon or commanding a spirit or magic, usually by means of a magical ritual / magical

10. Reckless: Without thinking or caring about the consequences of an action /

     thoughtless

11. Misery: A state or feeling of great distress or discomfort of mind or body / Sadness

      Words Used as Adverbs and Adjectives:

Rewrite the following sentences using the adverbial forms of the words in Italics:
